Dr. Jere Matthew Johnson is an established and highly skilled physician with over 25 years of experience in Family Medicine. He is well regarded in the Mission, Tx community, earning numerous accolades for his quality and patient-centered care. Dr. Johnson decided to become a doctor to serve others – to be in a profession where he could be involved in a meaningful way in the lives of others. In his words, “I started Family Health center of Mission in 1994 with my friend and former partner Dr. Steven Havener, to be involved in medical missionary work along the border, to work with under-served patients, and to develop a medical practice that would honor God.” Since then, he has served across the border of Mexico, in Quito, Ecuador; Togo, Africa, and Haiti in medical missions.
Dr. J. Matthew Johnson was born in Colorado Springs, CO, and grew up in Baytown, Tx as the oldest of 3 children. He completed his Medical School at Baylor College of Medicine and his residency and Geriatric fellowship at The University of Iowa. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is on staff at Mission Regional Medical Center where he served on the Medical Board and the Pharmacy and Therapeutic board. He currently attends Palm Valley Church, served on the board for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and RGV ACO Health Providers for several years leading high outcomes of quality care across the nation in Value-Based Care. He is currently the medical director at Legacy Hospice and volunteers at Proyecto Desarrollo Humano in the Pueblo de las Palmas clinic. He enjoys outdoor activities, biking, swimming, traveling, and spending time with his family
